In Memory of Professor Peter F. Smith and Professor John J. Quenby

We dedicate DMUK 2026 to the memory of Professor Peter F. Smith (1934–2025) and Professor John J. Quenby (1935–2024), pioneers of experimental dark matter research in the UK.

Their work in the 1980s helped establish the UK Dark Matter Collaboration (UKDMC) and the Boulby Underground Laboratory, laying the foundations for the UK's longstanding contributions to the search for dark matter.

We honour their scientific achievements, vision, and lasting legacy in the UK dark matter community.

This is a 1-day meeting for the UK's Dark Matter community to meet up, present research, and discuss the latest progress in the field.

The meeting will take place from 10am-5pm at the Rendall Building - Lecture Theatre 7.

Participants may attend in person or online via zoom. Please indicate on the registration form if you are planning to attend in person or online.

Please submit a talk title and abstract if you would like to give a talk. We particularly encourage talks from younger members of the community.

The deadline for registration is noon on Monday 2nd November.

We gratefully acknowledge the financial support provided by the Astroparticle Physics group of the Institute of Physics.

We plan a conference dinner on the 12th at 6pm, and kindly ask you to indicate if you can attend it on the registration form.

For participants arriving on the 11th, we are happy to organise a social dinner in the evening.
