Tevong You (Cambridge): Searching for Effective Field Theory Deformations of the SM at Colliders

Europe/London
Description

Abstract: The Standard Model is the most successful quantitative theory of all time. It should however be regarded as an effective field theory whose operators of dimensions five and higher supplement the renormalizable ones up to dimension four. The Wilson coefficients of these operators are induced by new physics that are presumably heavier than the weak scale. The question then is what is known experimentally about the limits on the sizes of these coefficients? I will present a global fit to the SM EFT attempting to answer this question, combining for the first time top, Higgs, diboson, and electroweak data.
