Description

LZ has released its latest result searching an extended nuclear recoil energy window up to 270 keV with an exposure of 2.84 tonne-years. At higher nuclear recoil energies, LZ is sensitive to more complex models of WIMP-nucleon interactions including momentum transfer dependent couplings and inelastic dark matter scatters. One event was observed with characteristics consistent with a nuclear recoil of 248 ± 23 (stat) ± 23 (sys) keV in a region where the known background expectation is low. LZ reports tension with a background-only hypothesis at local and global significances of 2.6σ and 3.4σ respectively. In this talk, I will outline the effective field theories used to test the high energy nuclear recoil Dark Matter hypothesis and will discuss the methods of analysis, calibration and background modelling.
