Elisabeth Schopf: Measurement of VH,H->bb processes at low and high transverse momenta at ATLAS

Europe/London
Description

Since the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012 its Standard Model like nature continues to being corroborated by observations of many of its predicted production and decay channels. However, the most probable decay of the Higgs boson to a pair of bottom quarks has remained elusive until recently due to its challenging experimental signature. This presentation will focus on the measurement of the Higgs boson decay to a pair of bottom quarks in associated production with a W or Z boson. The recent results of VH,H->bb measurements have been performed with the full LHC run-2 data set collected by the ATLAS experiment. Two analyses will be discussed: one probing signatures at low transverse momenta and one probing signatures at high transverse momenta. The former was the main contributor to the observation of H->bb decays. It has since been updated with more data and higher precision has been achieved to further our understanding of H->bb decays and VH production. The measurements of H->bb decays where the Higgs bosons were produced with high transverse momenta is a novel analysis that extends the probed transverse momentum range by using dedicated reconstruction techniques.
