LZ experiment sets new record in search for dark matter
LZ has announced its WIMP Search 2024 results at TeVPA and LIDINE conferences. This analysis includes 3.3 ± 0.1 tonne-years of new exposure and features a technique to actively tag background electronic recoils from 214Pb β decays. Charge-suppressed two-neutrino double electron capture events from 124Xe decays are identified as a noteworthy new background. World-leading constraints are placed on WIMP-nucleon cross sections. The strongest spin-independent exclusion set is 2.2 × 10−48 cm2 at the 90% confidence level for a WIMP mass of 43 GeV/c2.
