The Stadtmitte campus in the heart of Darmstadt is the university's oldest location. Among other things, it is home to the university's entrance building and the University and State Library. It is divided into four sections S1-S4.
The Institute for Accelerator Science und Electromagnetic Fields (TEMF) consists of five Professorial Chairs. Its research is dedicated to electromagnetic fields as occurring in electric devices and in particle accelerators, to the simulation of electric circuits, electromagnetic fields and particle trajectories and to the development of new algorithms.
